Digital Preparations
  1. Get a burner phone

Ask around for an old one or buy second-hand. Stay away from Apple and Samsung, only use Google Pixel if you know what you're doing. Consider flashing your operating system.

Important: You might need a telephone number to create some accounts. Find something cheap and pre-paid for single-use, you shouldn't rely on regular phone calls or messages going forward. [Remember to remove any (e)SIM card(s) from your phone afterwards.]

  2. Create your accounts

Install Signal for communication, use a username and hide your (soon defunct) phone number. Create a Proton account for e-mail, VPN and more. Depending on your circumstances, remember other services like car hailing or navigation apps.

Important: Don't forget to remove unnecessary/unsafe app permissions in your phone's settings.

  3. Enable visibility

Using the free plan of GitLab Pages and a domain from cheapname.com, you can create your own website(s) on a tight budget. Consider using alternatives to mainstream social media, e.g. UpScrolled.

Important: Use the mobile websites instead of installing their apps, if you must use products by Meta etc.
